Saint Catherine to Sharm El Sheikh by private car with driver

Saint Catherine lies inland in the mountains of South Sinai, home to the monastery and Mount Sinai, which together form a UNESCO World Heritage Site inscribed in 2002. Many visitors climb the mountain in the dark to watch the sunrise, visit the monastery afterwards and then want an easy ride back. This transfer takes you from Saint Catherine to Sharm El Sheikh, about 210–230 km away: straight to the airport for a flight, or to your hotel in any part of Sharm. You choose the actual car from its photo, a local provider supplies it with a driver, and the price is per vehicle, so a group that climbed together shares one car. The request is free, you pay nothing online, and the booking step shows whether payment goes to the driver or to the provider, who confirms the trip. The travel time the provider set is shown above, next to the price.

From the mountains back to the coast

The drive leaves the Saint Catherine area towards the Dahab side of the coast and then turns south on the main highway along the Gulf of Aqaba to Sharm El Sheikh. In total it is about 210–230 km. It is the Sharm El Sheikh to Saint Catherine road, simply taken in reverse.

Police and military checkpoints operate on the South Sinai highways, and on a long inland route like this one officers may ask for passports and visas. Keep yours with you rather than packed away, especially if you plan to doze in the back seat after the climb.

Airport or hotel: how the booking works

Say where the trip ends: Sharm El Sheikh airport, or your hotel in Naama Bay, Nabq Bay, Sharks Bay, the Old Market area or Hadaba. Give your pickup point in Saint Catherine too, such as the name of your guesthouse or camp. The local provider receives the free request and confirms it.

Each listing shows the exact car with its own photo, the driver is included, and the price shown is for the whole vehicle rather than per seat. Nothing is paid online; the booking step tells you whether you pay the driver or the local provider. Heading to the airport? Add your flight number so the provider can plan the pickup around your departure. Each car also shows whether a child seat can be provided on request.

Tips after the sunrise climb

The climb usually means a night with little sleep, so pack your bags the evening before if you can and keep water, a snack and a warm layer within reach for the drive. Choose a realistic pickup time: the walk down and a visit to the monastery are easy to underestimate, so leave room after them.

If you fly out the same day, start from the travel time the provider set, shown above, and allow plenty of time before check-in. Check your visa before you go, too: whether the free Sinai-only stamp covers Saint Catherine is unclear: the UK government's travel advice says it does not, while other sources say it does. Read the official travel advice for your nationality before travelling there.
