How to get from Sharm El Sheikh airport to hotel: every option compared
You can get from Sharm El Sheikh airport (SSH) to your hotel by pre-booked private transfer, by an airport taxi you negotiate on the spot, by a ride-hailing app where one works, by a hotel or tour-operator shuttle, or by rental car. Most hotel areas are 10 to 30 minutes away by road, so the real question is which option suits your luggage, your arrival time and your tolerance for haggling. This guide covers each one, including what we could not confirm. Facts checked 15 October 2026.

How far each area is from the airport
These are road estimates for free-flowing traffic, without speed bumps, checkpoints or congestion, so allow a little more on the day. Nabq Bay: about 8 km, 10 to 15 minutes. Sharks Bay: about 11 km, around 15 minutes. Montazah: about 13 km, 15 to 20 minutes. Naama Bay: about 11 to 14 km, 15 to 20 minutes. Old Market: about 20 km, 20 to 25 minutes. Hadaba and Ras Um Sid: about 23 to 25 km, 25 to 30 minutes.
Other websites quote slightly different figures because it depends on which point in each area they measure to. If your hotel is far from the middle of its area, add a few minutes.
Option 1: a pre-booked private transfer
A private transfer is priced per vehicle with the driver included, not per person. The current lowest price for your area is shown live on the airport transfer page, calculated at the moment you look, which is why this guide prints no amounts that could go out of date. You can add your flight number on the booking step.
Where the driver meets you in the arrivals hall, how long they wait after landing and which languages they speak are things to ask and have confirmed when you send the request. We do not promise any of them in advance.
Option 2: an airport taxi and agreeing the fare
South Sinai Governorate published a metered-taxi tariff for Sharm El Sheikh on 10 March 2026: EGP 29 at the start and EGP 14 per kilometre. We checked the notice on 20 October 2026; the official source is linked below. This is not a fixed airport-to-hotel fare for every destination.
The notice does not confirm whether a particular airport driver will use the meter or what airport, waiting or extra-stop charges apply. Ask before boarding. If you accept a fixed quote, confirm the whole-car total, currency and extras. Older blog amounts are not an up-to-date quote for your arrival.
A pre-booked private transfer is a different service. Our airport taxi prices page compares published private-transfer offers per vehicle with driver, by area. The request is free and no online payment is collected; wait for confirmation of availability and the meeting point.
Option 3: ride-hailing apps
Uber does not work in Sharm El Sheikh, nor anywhere else on the Sinai peninsula: it operates only in mainland Egyptian cities such as Cairo and Hurghada. Our local partner companies confirm this (October 2026), and Uber's own list of Egyptian cities has no Sharm El Sheikh page either. Careem and inDrive do work in Sharm El Sheikh. With inDrive you propose your own fare, drivers accept or counter, and you pay in cash. Driver availability at the airport or late at night can vary, so keep a fallback. Alpitour also recommended Careem in February 2026.
Options 4 and 5: hotel shuttle, tour-operator transfer and microbus
If you bought a package, the transfer is often included and the hotel or operator says where the representative waits. If you booked on your own, ask the hotel whether it runs its own shuttle and what it costs. We do not know every hotel's policy, so we cannot describe it for them.
Local microbuses, the blue-and-white minibuses, run a fixed route along the resort strip and stop on request at the roadside. Alpitour quotes 10 to 20 EGP for a short ride. We found no official timetable or fare, and with suitcases it is an awkward choice. In practice you reach them from the main road, not from the terminal door.
Option 6: rent a car at the airport
A car makes sense if you plan several day trips, for example to Dahab or Ras Mohammed. Check your documents before you fly. Our local partner companies accept national driving licences from any country, for example Ukrainian, Russian or Saudi, so your own licence is enough to rent (October 2026). As a separate, official point, the UK Foreign Office and German and Austrian motoring clubs advise carrying a 1949 international driving permit together with your national licence for road checks. The deposit is set by the company that owns the car and is shown on the car's page before you send a request: typically 300 to 500 US dollars or euros depending on the car, and about 1,000 for an expensive one. Some companies accept your passport left with them for the rental period instead of a cash deposit, and then there is no deposit; ask in your request. Minimum age is set by each company and sources say 21 or 23, so check the offer.
Always confirm the pickup point. Sources disagree about which companies have a desk in the arrivals area and which are off-airport. With Charm Rental you choose one specific car, and its pickup location is shown on the car's page.
Arriving step by step
Visa kiosks are before passport control. The UK Foreign Office gives the price as 30 US dollars, cash only. If you are staying only at the resorts of Sharm El Sheikh, Dahab, Nuweiba or Taba for under 15 days, you receive a free entry stamp at the airport. You do not need to buy a visa from an agent who approaches you in the hall; agents often charge more, and overcharging can be reported to the tourist police in the terminal. Our entry rules guide has the detail.
The arrivals hall is small and crowded, with taxi touts and tour representatives. Walk straight outside and agree your ride there. Landing after midnight? For a pre-booked transfer, enter the actual date you land, not the date your flight departed.
Families and accessibility
Child seats are provided by the companies. Cars that have one show "Child seat on request" on the offer card, so choose such a car and give the child's age in the request. Ordinary street taxis do not provide them.
If you travel with a folding wheelchair, mention it in the request so a suitable vehicle is chosen. We make no promises up front; availability is confirmed when you send the request.
