Tour operator transfer or private transfer in Sharm El Sheikh: which to choose
A tour operator transfer is usually a shared coach or minibus that calls at several hotels and is included in your package. A private transfer is a separate car you book in advance that goes from the airport straight to your hotel, with the price set per vehicle. A taxi on arrival is the third way, with no booking and no meter. Which one makes sense depends on when you land, how many of you travel and whether your flight is part of a package. This guide compares them without naming operators and without quoting prices.

The tour operator transfer: how it usually works
With a package holiday, the transfer is normally included in the price, and passengers from different flights and hotels ride together. The coach or minibus stops at several hotels, so the journey time depends on the order of the stops and not only on the distance. At the airport a representative of the operator usually shows you to the right vehicle. It is convenient because you organise nothing and pay nothing extra, but you do not choose the time or the route.
Check your operator's own rules in your voucher and with the operator: how many stops, how long the round can take and how the return to the airport works. We do not describe specific operators here, because their rules differ.
The private transfer booked in advance
A private transfer is a car with a driver booked before you travel. It goes directly to the hotel you name, with no stops for other passengers, and you can choose the vehicle: a car for a couple, a larger one for a family or a minibus for a group. The price is per vehicle, the driver is included, and the current lowest price per vehicle is shown on the transfer page. We do not quote it in the guide.
On the booking step you can add your flight number, because the form has a field for it. Whether the driver waits with a name sign, how long he waits if the flight is late and where exactly you meet, confirm when you send the request. Do not assume it.
A taxi when you land
Taxis at the airport and in town usually have no working meter, so the price is agreed before you get in, and tourists are often quoted more than locals. Wikivoyage advises not to count on the meter, to note the driver's number and to pay only when you arrive. Sources quote very different fares, so we do not repeat any: see our overview of taxis and airport prices by area.
According to our local partner companies in Sharm (October 2026), Careem and inDrive work here, and Uber does not. On inDrive you propose your own fare and pay in cash. The availability of drivers at the airport and late at night can vary, so it is not a plan for every situation.
When each one makes sense
Choose the operator's coach if you have a package, arrive during the day, travel alone or as a couple and want simplicity. A private transfer makes sense if you land late at night or very early in the morning, if you do not want to wait for passengers from other flights and tour the hotels, if you travel with small children or a larger group and share the price of one vehicle, or if your flight is not part of any package and nobody provides a transfer.
With a child, choose a car that shows "Child seat on request" on the offer card and put the child's age in your request. Street taxis do not usually provide child seats. A taxi suits you if you book nothing in advance and accept some bargaining on the spot.
Distances: how long the drive from the airport takes
These are road estimates without traffic and without checks on the road, computed on OpenStreetMap data. From the airport to Naama Bay it is about 11 to 14 km and 15 to 20 minutes, to Nabq about 8 km and 10 to 15 minutes, to Sharks Bay about 11 km and 15 minutes, to Montazah about 13 km and 15 to 20 minutes, to the Old Market about 20 km and 20 to 25 minutes, and to Hadaba and Ras Um Sid about 23 to 25 km and 25 to 30 minutes.
Compare this with the time your operator quotes. On a coach with many stops, a hotel at the end of the round can mean a journey much longer than the distance suggests.
Leaving the package transfer: what to check
If you are thinking of a private transfer instead of the one in your package, first check three things with your operator, in your voucher and in your contract: whether an unused transfer is refunded, whether the return transfer still applies if you skip the arrival one, and whether you must tell them in advance. Do not assume the answers, because they depend on the operator.
You can also combine the two: private from the airport and the package coach for the return, if the operator allows it. If you are also thinking of renting a car on your own, read our guide to Sharm El Sheikh without a package holiday and our overview of the options from the airport to the hotel.
