Sharm El Sheikh Airport departures: how to get there, which terminal and what to expect

Most hotels are 10 to 30 minutes from Sharm El Sheikh airport, and the calmest way to get there is a return transfer booked in advance. How early to arrive is decided by your airline; we do not give our own hours. Check your ticket for the terminal. Below you will find drive times from the main areas, ways to get there, checks on the road and what we know about the lounge. Facts checked on 15 October 2026.

How long it takes from Naama Bay, Nabq and the Old Market

These are road estimates from a routing engine on OpenStreetMap data, for free-flowing traffic without queues, speed bumps or checkpoints. From Naama Bay about 11 km, around 12 to 20 minutes. From Nabq about 8 km, 10 to 15 minutes. From Sharks Bay about 11 km, around 15 minutes. From Montazah about 13 km, 15 to 20 minutes. From the Old Market about 20 km, 20 to 25 minutes. From Hadaba and Ras Um Sid about 23 to 25 km, 25 to 30 minutes. The figures are similar in the opposite direction.

That is driving time only. Add a buffer for traffic, road checks and waiting for the car, especially if you leave the hotel when many coaches leave.

Return transfer, taxi, app or rental car

The calmest option is to book your return transfer together with the arrival one, or a few days before your flight. You can add your flight number on the booking step; the hotel pickup time and meeting point we confirm in the request rather than promise in advance. The price is per vehicle, driver included, and the current lowest price is shown on the airport transfer page.

Taxis in Sharm have no meter and no official fare board, so you agree the price before getting in; indicative fares with their sources are on our page about airport taxi prices. According to our local partner companies (October 2026), Uber does not work in Sharm El Sheikh, while Careem and inDrive do, though driver availability very early or late at night can vary. If you are returning a rental car, agree the time and place in your request before your flight.

Which terminal: check your ticket

The airport has two terminals next to each other. According to a low-authority source Terminal 1 handles international flights and Terminal 2 domestic and some regional ones, but airlines and allocations change, so we do not assign any airline to any terminal. Your terminal and check-in desk are in your booking confirmation, in your airline's app or on the board in the departure hall. A message from your airline about a terminal change outranks any guide, this one included.

Checks on the way and documents

According to the UK Foreign Office (FCDO), police in Egypt regularly check ID, so keep your passport with you rather than in a suitcase in the boot. Road checkpoints can lengthen the trip; showing your document is usually enough.

At the airport there are security and passport checks. Limits on liquids in hand luggage are set by your airline and the security staff, not by us, so we do not quote them; read your airline's messages. If you entered on the Sinai stamp, remember that it does not cover other regions of Egypt; details are in our guide to entry rules and the Sinai visa.

How early to arrive, the lounge and duty free

How many hours before departure to arrive is answered by your airline or tour operator. Follow their advice on your ticket and do not rely on numbers from forums. You add your own buffer for the trip from the hotel.

According to one low-authority guide there is a paid lounge in Terminal 1 for about 30 to 40 US dollars; this is unofficial and unconfirmed, so ask about the price and hours on the spot. We found no confirmed information on duty-free shops or a smoking area, so we do not describe them.
