Sharm El Sheikh Airport arrivals: visa, Sinai stamp and getting out of the hall
When you land at Sharm El Sheikh you ride a bus to the terminal, then either buy a visa at a kiosk before immigration (USD 30, cash) or receive the free Sinai entry stamp. After that come immigration, baggage claim and customs, and then you walk out into a small, busy arrivals hall. The layout is simple, but the hall is crowded, so it helps to know what to expect. Facts checked on 15 October 2026; entry rules change, so check them before you travel.

From the plane to the terminal
According to Wikipedia, at Terminal 1 every gate leads out to remote stands, so passengers go to and from the aircraft by bus, and passport control is in the central building. Do not expect to walk straight off the plane into the building. Check your ticket or ask your airline which terminal your flight uses.
Visa kiosk or the free Sinai stamp
Decide before you join the passport queue. According to the UK Foreign Office (FCDO), visa kiosks at approved airports are before the immigration counters; a visa costs 30 US dollars, cash only, and is valid for up to 30 days. The price rose from 25 to 30 dollars on 1 March 2026, so older pages quoting 25 are out of date. You do not need to buy a visa from an agent; the FCDO warns that agents often charge more than 30 dollars and says harassment should be reported to the tourist police in the terminal.
If you stay under 15 days in the resorts of Sharm El Sheikh, Dahab, Nuweiba or Taba, you do not need a visa and receive a free entry stamp on arrival. Citizens of EU states, the UK and the US can stay up to 15 days according to the FCDO and Wikipedia (some operators say 14, so check the date on your stamp). The stamp does not cover Cairo, Hurghada or Luxor. Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from arrival and have a blank page. Details on Ras Mohammed and St Catherine are in our guide to entry rules and the Sinai visa.
According to our local partner companies in Sharm (October 2026), citizens of Russia and Ukraine receive the Sinai stamp for about one month, 28 to 30 days. Check the current rules before you travel.
Immigration, baggage and customs
After the kiosk you go to the immigration counters, then to baggage claim, and finally through customs. Luggage carts are available and, according to one guide, the walk from baggage claim to the car park is short. We do not quote exact times because they depend on how many flights landed together. In winter, the charter season, queues can be longer, so do not arrange a meeting down to the minute.
The arrivals hall, touts and how to walk past them
According to travel guides the arrivals hall is small, hot and crowded, with taxi touts and tour representatives waiting. The simplest approach is to walk past everyone and step outside without answering offers. Consider other offers only once you have found the driver you booked or the official taxi rank.
Charter arrivals after midnight are routine. If you land after midnight, enter the calendar date of the actual landing in your transfer request: a 00:40 arrival on the night from Saturday to Sunday is Sunday. Check that date twice before you send the request.
Driver, taxi or app
If you book a transfer, you can add your flight number on the booking step, and you should ask in your request where the driver will wait. We do not promise such details in advance; we confirm them in the request. This is how our airport transfer works, and the current lowest price per vehicle, driver included, is shown on its page.
Taxis in Sharm have no meter and no official fare board, so you agree the price before getting in; according to guides tourists are routinely quoted more than locals. Indicative fares with their sources are on our page about airport taxi prices. According to our local partner companies (October 2026), Uber does not work in Sharm El Sheikh, while Careem and inDrive do. Driver availability at the airport and late at night can vary, and on inDrive you offer your own fare and pay cash. The FCDO advises women travellers, especially at night, not to ride a taxi alone without sharing the driver's details and live location with a friend.
Child seats are provided by the companies: choose a car marked Child seat on request and give the child's age in your request. Ordinary street taxis do not have them.
