Cairo airport (CAI) to Sharm El Sheikh: how the transfer works
If you land at Cairo International Airport (CAI) and your hotel is in Sharm El Sheikh, you face a road of about 480–495 km, which this page rates at five and a half to six and a half hours. It is a long day after a flight, and it is worth knowing what to expect before you book anything. This page is a guide, not a booking page. No driver on our site lists a car for this exact route yet, so you will find a WhatsApp box instead of a form: write your arrival date, flight time, passengers and luggage, and we will say whether a driver can meet you. Below are the road, the visa desk at arrival, the question of driving at night, where you can end up in Sharm and the alternatives.
Request this transfer on WhatsApp
Online booking is not open on this route yet, but you can still request the trip: send your date, number of passengers and luggage on WhatsApp, and we will look for a driver and tell you the price. Asking is free.

From the arrivals hall to the Sinai coast
Cairo airport sits on the eastern side of the capital, which helps: the highway towards Suez starts close by, so the car does not have to cross the whole city. It runs east to Suez, goes under the Suez Canal in the Ahmed Hamdi Tunnel and comes out in Sinai, then follows the Gulf of Suez shore south until the road reaches Sharm El Sheikh.
Distance by road is about 480–495 km. OpenStreetMap routing (OSRM, October 2026) gives five hours twenty-five to thirty-five minutes with no stops. Treat that as the lower limit. The page rates the trip at five and a half to six and a half hours because Sinai checkpoints, the tunnel queue and the time it takes to collect your bags and find the car are not in the route calculation.
Visa on arrival at Cairo and your passport
Flying into Cairo rather than Sharm changes your entry paperwork. The free Sinai-only stamp is given on arrival at Sharm El Sheikh airport, not at Cairo, so you enter on a normal visa. UK government advice (August 2026) says Cairo airport offers a digital visa on arrival, payable by card only, and that you do not need to buy a visa from an agent, who often charge more. Your passport must have at least six months of validity from arrival and one blank page. Rules and fees change, so check the current advice before you fly (checked October 2026).
Keep the passport at hand for the drive. Police check ID regularly in Egypt and may detain people who cannot show a passport and visa, or a copy.

Landing late, tired or after dark: when to start the drive
UK travel advice tells visitors not to drive outside main cities and resorts at night, and travellers report that road lighting exists mostly near large towns. With a driver you are not at the wheel, but a six-hour journey that begins at midnight is hard on everyone, including the driver.
If your flight arrives in the evening, consider a night in a hotel near the airport and a start after breakfast; the Sinai coast is then driven in daylight and you reach the beach in the afternoon. If you must go straight on, tell us your landing time when you write, so we can judge whether a driver can be there, and plan a proper break halfway. Flight delays are common, so share your flight number on the booking step if a booking becomes possible.
Where in Sharm El Sheikh the car can take you
The drive ends either at Sharm El Sheikh airport area or at your hotel. Once in the resort, the last leg depends on the district. From the airport, Sharks Bay is roughly 3–10 km, Nabq Bay about 7–11 km, Naama Bay about 10–14 km, the Old Market about 19–21 km and Hadaba about 20–25 km, depending on the hotel.
Nabq Bay is the first resort area you meet coming from the north, which makes a hotel there the shortest finish. Naama Bay, the Old Market and Hadaba lie further south, so add a short extra stretch at the end of an already long day. Write the hotel's full name and area in your message, so we can tell the driver exactly where the journey stops.
No online booking yet from Cairo airport
Right now no partner on our site offers a car from Cairo airport, so there is no live price and no booking form on this page. Send us a WhatsApp message with your date, passengers and luggage and we will tell you whether a driver can take it.
If you are happy to start from somewhere other than the terminal, the Sharm El Sheikh to Cairo page shows cars priced for Cairo addresses, and the Cairo to Sharm El Sheikh page lists the districts a driver can pick you up from, such as Heliopolis near the airport. Any price you see on the site is for the entire car with its driver, and the booking step shows who gets paid, never an online card payment.
Coach, flight or rental car from Cairo airport to Sharm
Super Jet's official site lists a Cairo Airport station and, in Sharm, a stop at Rowaysat. A 2026 guide names Go Bus, Blue Bus and East Delta on the Cairo to Sharm route as well. Check each company's app for timetables and fares, and note which Sharm terminal your ticket uses; we have not printed them because we could not confirm them.
EgyptAir, Air Cairo and Nile Air are listed among the domestic airlines at Sharm airport, so a connecting flight is worth a look if you carry little. Renting a car at the terminal is another idea, but one-way drop-offs from the mainland to Sharm are reported to carry a high fee or to be refused, and guides advise checking that the contract covers all of South Sinai.
Taxi, Uber or a pre-arranged driver at Cairo arrivals
A ride from Cairo airport into the capital is the simple case: Uber, for one, has a city page for Cairo. A trip on to Sharm El Sheikh is another matter. It ends in Sinai, where Uber does not work, it takes the best part of a day, and a driver found on the spot may not be ready for a 480–495 km run through checkpoints. If you do take a taxi from the airport, agree the vehicle, the full amount, the stops and the exact destination in writing before the bags go in the boot.
A driver arranged in advance knows your flight number, so a late landing does not leave you stranded, and the car is chosen for your group: a minivan for four adults with luggage, or a child seat where the car offers one. Because no driver lists this route yet, ask us on WhatsApp first; if a car is available, the price will be for the whole vehicle, not per traveller, and nothing is paid online. Families on an evening flight often find that the calmest plan is a night near the airport and a start after breakfast.
