Cheap car hire in Sharm El Sheikh
Cheap car hire in Sharm El Sheikh starts with an honest comparison. At the top of this page you see the cheapest cars available today, sorted by their current price per day, and below them the "from" price for each car class. Every amount is computed by the server from the real offers of local companies, so we do not write them into the text. The lowest daily price is only the start, though. What you really pay depends on the class, the dates, the pickup point, the deposit and fuel. Below we cover what to look at so that a car is cheap rather than just looking cheap, and when a transfer or taxi works out cheaper than renting.

Self-drive rental: price per day by car class
Lowest current price per day for each class, from real listed cars.

How to find a cheap car without surprises
Start with the class. A small city car is usually the lowest per day, while an SUV or premium car costs more, so if there are two of you and one suitcase there is no reason to pay for a bigger class. On the other hand, with four people and luggage a car that is too small costs you in comfort, not in money.
Then the dates. The daily price changes with the period: in peak season it can be higher, and the table at the top shows prices for today. So once you pick a car, enter your own dates on the car's page and read the amount that applies to you there. A longer rental may be calculated differently from a single day, so compare the total for your whole stay, not just one row of the table.
Finally the pickup point. Collecting at the airport or at a hotel are different set-ups, and companies may treat their cost differently. Choose the point you actually need and compare offers for the same place and the same dates.
Do not sort by price alone: two cars in the same class can differ in age, gearbox and equipment, and the description and photos are on the car's page.
The daily price is not everything: deposit and hidden costs
The real cost of a rental is the price for all the days plus the deposit and extras. The deposit is set by the company that owns the car and shown on the car's page before you send a request. According to our local partner companies in Sharm (October 2026) it is typically 300 to 500 US dollars or euros depending on the car, and for an expensive car it can be about 1,000. Some companies accept your passport left with them for the rental period instead of a cash deposit; then there is no deposit, so ask in your request. The deposit is refundable, but it ties up part of your budget for the whole rental.
In low-priced offers anywhere there are things to check before you call a price low: the insurance excess, the fuel policy, meaning how full the tank is at pickup and return, and any mileage limit. We do not describe a particular company's terms here; check them on the car's page or ask in your request before you send it.
If you need a child seat, choose a car marked "Child seat on request" on the offer card and give the child's age in the request.

What fuel costs on a rental
Fuel is a separate cost and easy to estimate, because prices in Egypt are official. Under the Ministry of Petroleum decision in force since 10 March 2026, and still in force on 9 October 2026, a litre of 95-octane petrol costs 24.00 EGP, 92-octane costs 22.25 EGP, 80-octane costs 20.75 EGP and diesel costs 20.50 EGP. We checked this on 15 October 2026; prices can change, so verify them before you travel.
To estimate your spend, multiply the litres by the price per litre. Ten litres of 92-octane are 222.50 EGP, and ten litres of 95-octane are 240 EGP. How many litres you need depends on the model and your route; the consumption shown on the car's page or given by the company is a better basis than guesswork. Also check which fuel the car takes.
A cheap car that uses a lot of fuel can cost more than a slightly bigger car that uses less, so on long routes, for example to Dahab, put both costs side by side.
When a transfer or taxi is cheaper than renting
Renting pays off when you drive every day and to several places. If you only need to get from the airport to the hotel and back, or make one excursion, a transfer with a driver can cost less than a day of rental plus fuel and deposit. A transfer price is per vehicle and includes the driver; the current lowest rates are in the table on the transport prices page.
For a few short hops around town a taxi or an app can be enough. According to our local partner companies in Sharm (October 2026), Careem and inDrive work and Uber does not. Street taxis have no meter, so you agree the price before the ride.
The comparison of all three options, car, taxi and transfer, is in our guide "Car rental, taxi or transfer". If you want to know what a driver costs for longer, look at the car with driver by the hour offer.
