Sharm El Sheikh beaches by car: distances from the main areas

Sharm El Sheikh is a long coastline of bays rather than one beach, and the stretches people ask about are far apart: Nabq in the north, Naama Bay and Sharks Bay in the middle, Hadaba and Ras Um Sid in the south, and Ras Mohammed National Park beyond. A car lets you move between them on your own schedule instead of staying at one hotel beach. This guide gives only what we could source: road distances and park-entry facts checked on 15 October 2026. We do not rank beaches and we do not quote beach fees or opening hours, because we could not verify them.

Why a car helps on this coast

Distances between the beach areas are 10 to 25 km, which is too far to walk and often awkward by bus. With a rental car you can leave in the morning, spend time at one bay, then move to another without arranging a ride each time. Cars on Charm Rental are listed with pickup at places such as Naama Bay, Nabq Bay and the airport, so you can start close to where you stay. The page shows the current lowest price per vehicle; the car page shows what is included.

Road distances between the main areas

These are rounded road estimates without traffic, computed on OpenStreetMap data, so real times are usually a little longer. From the airport: Nabq Bay is about 8 km (10 to 15 minutes), Sharks Bay about 11 km (about 15 minutes), Naama Bay about 11 to 14 km (15 to 20 minutes), Montazah about 13 km (15 to 20 minutes), the Old Market about 20 km (20 to 25 minutes) and Hadaba or Ras Um Sid about 23 to 25 km (25 to 30 minutes).

From Naama Bay: Sharks Bay is about 11 km, Hadaba about 11 km, Ras Um Sid about 12 km (about 15 minutes), the Old Market about 9 km and Nabq Bay about 18 km (about 17 minutes). Use these numbers to group beaches by area in one day, for example Nabq and Sharks Bay together, and Hadaba and Ras Um Sid together, rather than crossing the city twice.

Ras Mohammed National Park

Ras Mohammed is the longest trip from the city. Its entrance gate is about 29 km from the airport (about 24 minutes) and about 19 km from Naama Bay. The southern tip, where the park road ends, is about 45 km from the airport and about 35 km from Naama Bay, roughly 35 to 45 minutes.

Park fees and hours are disputed and we found no current official notice. A 2019 ministry decision reported by Egypt Independent set USD 5 per foreign visitor for a daytime visit, doubled after sunset, with children under 7 exempt, plus a vehicle fee. Commercial pages quote anything from USD 5 to about USD 12 per person, and opening hours from 08:00 to 16:00 up to sunset. Treat all of it as unconfirmed and ask at the gate. A physical passport is needed at the gate, and whether the free Sinai stamp covers the park is disputed, so check before you travel.

What we do not list: beach access, fees and hours

Access rules, entrance fees, sunbed charges and opening hours differ from one beach to the next and change often. We have not verified them for individual beaches, so this guide lists none and does not name a best beach. Ask at your hotel, at the beach entrance or at the local tourist office before you drive out, and carry some cash. If a beach asks for an entrance fee, that is a payment between you and the beach, not part of your car rental.

Practical points for beach days by car

Carry your passport, because police check ID regularly and checkpoints are common on roads out of the resort areas. Keep the car papers and rental contract with you. Do not leave valuables visible in a parked car. If you plan to drive on unpaved tracks to a remote bay, ask the company first whether the rental terms allow it. If the company holds your passport as the deposit, agree which ID you carry. Ask in your request whether a daily kilometre limit applies and mention which areas you plan to visit.
