Renting a Hyundai in Sharm El Sheikh: which model suits your trip

Hyundai spans more body types than most brands in the Egyptian catalog we follow: sedans (Accent, Elantra), small hatchbacks (i10, i20), SUVs (Tucson, Creta, Santa Fe) and passenger vans (Staria, H-1). For a week in Sharm El Sheikh that means one badge can cover a couple on an airport run, a family with suitcases and a group that needs nine or more seats. Which of these cars is offered right now is shown at the top of the page. The model notes further down come from the Egyptian distributor's pages.

From i10 to H-1: matching the body type to your group

The two hatchbacks suit couples and solo travellers who mostly drive between hotel, beach and restaurants. They park easily in Naama Bay and the Old Market, but suitcases compete with passengers for space, so count your bags before you choose one.

The Accent and Elantra sedans give a separate boot and a rear bench for two adults or three children. They are the usual choice for a family of four who also want some distance, for example a day out along the coast.

Tucson, Creta and Santa Fe sit higher and give easier loading. Santa Fe is the one to look at if you need more than five seats, because Hyundai's global range lists five-, six- and seven-seat versions: the name alone does not tell you which one you get. Staria and H-1 are the vans for groups; they are far more often booked with a driver than driven by tourists.

What to confirm on the Hyundai you are offered

A model name covers several years and equipment levels, and the distributor pages we quote describe specific generations. Ask for the model year, whether the gearbox is automatic or manual, and whether the air conditioning works at full load, because a car parked in the sun at Sharm airport in summer is a real test.

Then check the practical items that decide the trip: number of seats actually usable, boot space with all seats occupied, the mileage allowance, the deposit and how it is held, and which documents you must show at pick-up. Deposits are usually a pre-authorisation on a physical credit card in the main driver's name, but the exact terms belong to the listed car and its owner.

Self-drive or with a driver: how Hyundai models split

Small and mid-size Hyundais are easy to drive yourself if you hold a national licence plus the 1949-type international permit and are comfortable with Egyptian traffic, roundabouts and frequent police and military checkpoints between towns. Official advice from the UK is to avoid driving outside cities and resorts at night, so plan day trips to finish before dark.

If you would rather not drive at all, book the same kind of car with a driver. The price on a car with a driver is for the whole vehicle, not per person, and each card shows seats and luggage space. Vans and larger SUVs are the cars where a driver makes the most sense: nobody has to find parking for something that long, and everyone can look out of the window on the way to Dahab.

When another brand fits better

If a Hyundai sedan is not listed on your dates, the Kia Cerato and Kia Rio are the nearest alternatives, along with Toyota Corolla and Nissan Sunny. For hatchbacks, look at Kia Picanto, Toyota Yaris and Suzuki Swift. For a higher SUV with five seats, Nissan Qashqai, Kia Sportage and Toyota RAV4 are in the same catalog. For a real group vehicle, compare Kia Carnival, Toyota Hiace and Mercedes-Benz V-Class with Staria and H-1.

The point is to compare the same body type and seat count, not the badge. Two cars of the same class can differ more by year and condition than by brand.

Hyundai models sold in Egypt

What the Egyptian distributor lists for each model, from the manufacturer’s local pages. The car you rent may be a different year or version: its own listing decides.

Hyundai Accent · Sedan

Hyundai Egypt’s Accent RB brochure specifies a four-speed automatic. Check whether an offer is RB or another Accent generation before comparing it with Elantra for your stay in Sharm.

Hyundai Elantra · Sedan

Elantra AD’s Egyptian page lists a six-speed automatic transmission and dual-zone air conditioning. Elantra covers multiple generations; confirm the exact generation and equipment in your rental listing. Compare the rear-seat space and boot access with your group and luggage. Gearbox, equipment and deposit depend on the listed car and its year.

Hyundai Tucson · SUV

Hyundai Egypt lists several Tucson trims, including N Line. Equipment is trim-specific: request confirmation of parking aids and the transmission rather than assuming all Tucson listings are identical. Check the exact seat layout and luggage space, especially if you need an extra row. An SUV badge does not establish four-wheel drive or permission to drive off-road.

Hyundai Creta · SUV

Hyundai’s Indian Creta reference describes a five-seat SUV with a split rear bench. Consider the bench layout when combining child seats and luggage; equipment from that market is not a promise for an Egyptian rental.

Hyundai Santa Fe · SUV

Hyundai’s global Santa Fe range includes five-, six- and seven-seat layouts. The name alone therefore does not establish group capacity. For a journey to Dahab, compare luggage room with the required rows occupied rather than with seats folded.

Hyundai i10 · Hatchback

Hyundai’s European 2025 i10 specification lists a 252-litre boot with the seats up. For an airport arrival with large suitcases, compare the actual boot opening with i20 or a sedan; folding seats is unsuitable if those seats are needed by passengers.

Manufacturer information ↗

Hyundai i20 · Hatchback

Hyundai Poland lists up to 352 litres of boot space for the current i20. Compare it with i10 when airport luggage matters more than the smallest parking footprint; confirm the rental year before using those figures.

Manufacturer information ↗

Hyundai Staria · People carrier

Hyundai’s global STARIA Wagon range includes nine- and eleven-seat layouts with sliding side doors. The seating arrangement varies by market. For a group airport transfer, confirm the listed passenger capacity and remaining luggage space rather than relying on the model name. Match both passenger and luggage capacity to your group; seat layouts vary between versions. For a transfer, enter every passenger and check the capacity of the offered vehicle.

Hyundai H-1 · People carrier

Hyundai’s H-1 brochure presents nine- and twelve-seat passenger wagons. Count the usable passenger places separately from the driver’s seat, and confirm the luggage left after everyone is seated. Compare the actual arrangement with Staria for a group airport transfer.
