Child car seat in Sharm El Sheikh: rental, transfer and taxi

Child car seats in Sharm El Sheikh are provided by the companies on our platform: cars that have one show "Child seat on request" on the offer card. Choose such a car and give the child's age in your request. Ordinary street taxis do not provide them. Below: what we know about the rules (as of 15 October 2026), how the seat on request works, how taxis, transfers and self-drive differ, and what to do about bringing your own seat on a flight.

What we know about the rules

According to the UK Foreign Office (FCDO), drivers and front seat passengers must wear seat belts. The Austrian motoring club ÖAMTC says children up to 7 years must not sit on the front seat. We found no Egyptian legal text requiring a child seat, so it is up to the rental company whether it supplies one. Descriptions of the rules vary. Checked 15 October 2026; check before you travel with your own country's sources.

Whatever the rules, the safest choice is a seat that suits your child's age and height.

Child seat on request: how it works

According to our local partner companies in Sharm (October 2026), child seats are provided by the companies. Cars that have one show "Child seat on request" on the offer card. Choose such a car and in your request write how many children are travelling and how old they are, so the company can prepare a suitable seat.

The company confirms the seat when it answers your request. If a car has no such label, do not assume a seat is available: ask in your request. The price per vehicle is shown on the offer page, and we do not put a price on extras in this text.

Taxis and ordinary transfers

Travel guides note that child car seats are not standard in Egypt: neither taxis nor most transfer companies provide them automatically. That comes from a commercial airport guide, so read it as a warning, not as law. An ordinary street taxi has no child seat.

If you arrive at the airport with a child, choose a transfer with a driver and a child seat on request, and give the child's age in your request. A driver comes with every transfer and car-with-driver booking, but the seat has to be agreed with the company, because we do not promise it in advance.

Self-drive with a child

With self-drive you fit the seat yourself and you are responsible for the child while driving. In your request choose a car with "Child seat on request" and ask how the seat is fixed and whether it suits the rear bench. Ask too whether you can see it when you collect the car.

For a longer trip, such as to Dahab, allow for stops and checkpoints. Driving rules, fuel and checkpoints have their own guide.

Bringing your own seat

You can bring your own seat if you know it and trust it. The airline sets the rules for carrying a child seat on a flight (baggage, fee, whether it can go in the cabin), so check with your airline before you fly. If you travel with your own seat, say so in your request: the company will tell you whether it fits the car and how to fit it.

Remember a seat has to fit the particular car. Do not assume every model can be fitted in every car.

Which option suits a family

For a short ride from the airport, the simplest is a transfer with a driver and a child seat on request. For a full day, say to Ras Mohammed or the beach, consider a car with a driver: the driver comes with the booking and you look after the child. Self-drive gives the most freedom but needs seat belts, a child seat and calm driving on local roads.

Always give the child's age and the number of people with luggage in your request.
